Sculpture for Public Spaces

People are influenced by the quality of their surroundings. For this reason, Meir Weiss and I are happy to donate or loan pieces to hospitals, schools and other public or charitable institutions in exchange for a voluntary charitable donation.  Meir has done this for many years, and I have followed his example more recently. This page shows: an outdoor piece of mine, Meir at work, and one of his pieces (hornbeam) in the West Berkshire Community Hospital. We have also placed work in the Royal Berkshire Hospital, the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services offices in Reading, Thrive, and Mary Hare School amongst others. We use green wood that is a by-product of tree surgery or commercial felling, and would otherwise be burnt or chipped.

The tactile quality of wood

Photo of wood used for therapeutic benefitsI am interested in the benefits of handling and making wood sculptures.  This is in the early stages but I plan to follow some projects through. Jo Goddard, Chris Hehir (Horticulture) and I have worked with students at Treloar College to finish and assemble wooden decorative pieces, with very positive results.
