Wood Carving: Working with living wood
After working as a University teacher, I began making bowls and natural sculptures with the support of Meir Weiss. Using reclaimed green wood, I have tried to uncover its energy, texture and character. The amount of planning varies, but the most effective pieces seem to take on a life of their own and spring surprises.
My work was first shown in a student exhibition at Morley College, London www.morleycollege.ac.uk in 2006. The Whiteknights Studio Trail 2007 was a very important step, because it enabled contact with a large number of sympathetic, interested people and the help and support of fellow "makers". I was accepted as a Member of the Reading Guild of Artists in October 2007. In 2008 I have taken part in the West Berkshire and North Hampshire Open Studios, www.studio-trail.org.uka wonderful opportunity to show alongside high quality "makers" who work in a wide range of materials; and the Whiteknights Studio Trail 2008 www.studiotrail.co.uk. For more details see "exhibitions".
